Job summary

New College Swindon seeks an Animal Care Technician to join our Lifestyle team. You will care for a diverse range of animals, support practical sessions and help develop our Animal Care Centre.

Working with lecturers and students, you’ll monitor health, maintain records, assist with new animals, manage stock and support open events. A Level 3 in Animal Care or toward one plus practical experience is required; driving licence is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • This role requires a Level 3 qualification in Animal Care or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience with animal husbandry and high welfare standards.
  • Experience supporting learners or practical training in education or industry.
  • Understanding of current animal care practices and developments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to handle varied workload under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of animal husbandry, health and welfare across the Animal Care Centre.
  • Support daily operation and ensure animals are cared for safely and professionally.
  • Assist lecturers and students during practical sessions.
  • Monitor health and wellbeing, keep health checks and feeding logs up to date.
  • Assist with introduction of new animals and development of the animal collection.
  • Manage stock control and order resources for curriculum delivery.
  • Build relationships with external organisations and other colleges to share best practice.
  • Contribute to planning and development of the College's Animal Care Centre.
  • Support open events, marketing activities and student engagement.
  • Provide 365-day care for animals on a rota including weekends and holidays.
