About The Role

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a permanent part-time Animal Care Attendant at Ipswich Rehoming Centre! AWLQ Animal Attendants play a huge part in ensuring the welfare of our animals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure the welfare of animals in care including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets is to the highest standard
  • Maintaining and cleaning of animal housing to a high standard
  • Providing a high standard of animal care including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments
  • Providing positive based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals
  • Impounding and reuniting lost animals with owners
  • Assisting customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions
  • High-level accuracy and attention to detail when updating animal and person records using our digital system.
  • Exceptional customer Service to all visitors to the Rehoming Centre’s

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

  • Certificate III in Animal studies, companion animals, Dog Training or behaviour qualification (desirable)
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with animal care in a professional environment
  • Previous animal industry experience in a similar capacity with dogs and cats.
  • National Police Clearance Certificate
  • Experience using digital management software and imputing data
  • Open driver’s license

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

  • Excellent Customer Service
  • The ability to work in a team and independently
  • Experience working with dogs, cats, and livestock.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability with animal quarantine and disease management
  • Confident dog and cat handling skills, able to read body language and communicate animal behaviour
  • Computer skills, able to use Microsoft Office, email, and data management systems
  • Be able to work a 7-day roster – which covers weekends and public holidays, with a 5pm finish on some shifts.
  • Reliable transport
