Job description

We’re looking for a product-aware Senior Android Engineer to join us as an Android Chapter Lead at Chip. As an Android Chapter Lead, you'll be working in a cross-functional agile team to help us continue to deliver a great app that makes our customers feel good about their money. You'll possess user-centric thinking and will understand and strive for great UI and UX.

You'll understand the need for modular and highly testable code balanced against the need to iterate and move fast in the competitive fin-tech space.

As an Android Chapter Lead, you’ll also be responsible for the line management and career development of several Android Engineers, ranging from Associate to Senior Level. You will collaborate with other Android Chapter Leads and Senior Engineers to drive the technical direction of the Android Chapter at Chip, in both overall architectural direction for the apps and frameworks, but also in general technical practices and processes. You'll share your passion and experience with the Android team, allowing and encouraging your less experienced teammates to step up to the challenges.

What you can expect to be doing:

  • Driving change in the Android Chapter. Encouraging best practices, processes, and fostering a positive engineering culture.
  • Writing code and shipping features.
  • Supporting Product/Delivery in technical requirements planning by providing knowledge of Google platforms, the codebase, and the feasibility of requirements.
  • Collaboration with teams that app developers are dependent on - providing requirements that meet the needs of a mobile function, rather than being provided with a service that's not fit for purpose.
  • Collaboration in UI/UX process to ensure designs are feasible, scalable, and comply with the Apple/Google Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Line management of 2 - 3 Android engineers within the chapter. Providing opportunities for learning, mentoring, encouraging others to mentor, and supporting members to achieve their career goals and personal development.

What we’re looking for:

  • You have experience programming in Kotlin for Android platforms.
  • You understand the need for writing well-tested and resilient code, whilst balancing this against the need to move fast and iterate.
  • You have proven experience shipping apps in the Google Play Store.
  • You have a product mindset and an awareness that an app should be designed and built for the people that will use it.
  • You love collaborating in cross-functional agile teams.
  • You have experience mentoring and managing engineers of various levels of experience.

What we’re really looking for:

Someone with a genuine interest in Chip and is excited about being part of a fast-growing company and our mission to build the investment super app of the future.

We want a real person, with interests outside of work, to join our team. You could be a dancer, a gamer, a musician, a parent, a hockey fan, or even that one person that still writes Twilight fan-fiction. Doesn’t matter to us.

At the interview stages, we will be looking for empathy, EQ, fun stories, and the ability to smile even when things are tough.

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Start your weekend early!)

Enjoy a structured yet balanced workweek, with an early Friday finish to kickstart your weekend!

PERKS:

  • Discretionary Performance-Related Bi-Annual Bonus of up to 10% (Cash) and 5% (Shares) based on your gross annual salary.
  • Workplace pension scheme - We invest in your future with a workplace pension scheme, contributing 5% on earnings up to £50,000.
  • Private medical insurance (medical history disregarded).
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Season ticket loan.
  • Free ChipX subscription for UK-based employees.
  • We are an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, plus the days between Christmas and New Year.
  • Annual training budget for courses, workshops, or conferences to help you advance your career.
  • £30 per month Chip Fitness Benefit to suit your Mental/Physical Wellbeing.
  • Company laptop.
  • Opportunity to have a huge impact on our product while fast-tracking your knowledge, responsibility, and skills in a high-growth fintech startup.

Our Interview Process:

  1. Video screen with someone from our Talent team.
  2. Short take-home test.
  3. Technical interview with the Lead and Senior Engineer.
  4. Final interview with Head of Mobile & Senior Product Manager.
