Job Description

Role Purpose

To assist the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Service in managing the Public Mortuary based in Poplar High Street, London E14. The role involves supporting the Coroner’s Service and discharging the Council’s duties related to Public Health funerals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with casework, post-mortems, and forensic cases, including record keeping and administrative tasks.
  • Handle high-profile or complex cases, supporting the pathologist during post-mortems and forensic examinations.
  • Maintain monitoring and reporting systems for performance against targets.
  • Work out of hours as required.
  • Assist in body reconstruction and cleaning post-mortem for storage or release.
  • Manage the Parish Funerals process.

Requirements

Skills:

  • Experience in continuing professional development within the Mortuary Service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and computer skills.
  • Availability to work a 35-hour week, including participation in out-of-hours rota.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent.
