Job description

Job Description: Analytical Scientist - Materials Characterisation Team

The Materials Characterisation Team within the Analytical Technology Function is seeking an analytical scientist to support the application of analytical methods for understanding the chemical properties of a broad range of pharmaceutical materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Determine chemical profiles (organic and elemental) of APIs, excipients, drug products, and packaging materials to understand composition and impurities, including developing appropriate sample preparation methods.
  2. Measure drug product dissolution using USP apparatus and techniques such as fibre-optic, UV, and HPLC quantitation.
  3. Measure elemental impurities in drug products using ICP-MS in accordance with ICHQ3D guidelines.
  4. Execute accelerated stability studies on drug products, including trending of assay, impurities, and dissolution data.
  5. Perform experiments following good laboratory practices (GLP), established protocols, and SOPs.
  6. Identify atypical analytical results and conduct laboratory investigations.
  7. Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation issues.
  8. Document laboratory work clearly, accurately, and promptly, ensuring compliance with GLP requirements.
  9. Select appropriate presentation techniques for analytical datasets to deliver concise results to stakeholders efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a relevant scientific field.
  • Practical experience in analytical laboratories, including quantitative analysis.
  • Understanding of HPLC, dissolution testing, and ICP-MS / ICP-OES techniques.
  • Experience working in an industrial laboratory setting.
  • Operational experience with LC, ICP, or dissolution instrumentation and related software.
  • Experience in developing and validating analytical methods.
