Job summary

The Analytical Development Manager at Broughton Group will act as SME for method development and validation, guiding the team with expert analytical chemistry skills and advanced problem solving.

You will organise workload, ensure efficient use of resources, drive profitability, mentor scientists, and lead collaborations with external partners, while aligning with client expectations and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in analytical method development and validation.
  • Expertise in GC-MS and/or LC-MS.
  • Experience authoring regulatory submissions.
  • Proven technical writing and communications ability.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Knowledge of ICH, USP, EP guidance on method validation.
  • Experience managing KPIs, resource forecasting and capacity planning.
  • Min. 8 years in analytical method development.

Job description

The Analytical Development Manager is required to be a subject matter expert within Broughton. They provide support, guidance and technical know-how to the Analytical Development team. They need to have excellent analytical chemistry skills and advanced problem-solving abilities. They will act as a mentor and support the progression of the scientists within the team.

Organising the workload within the department and distributing to team members to ensure the most efficient and effective use of the people resource. Responsible for the profitability and performance of the Analytical Development Team.

Responsibilities / Objectives
  • Act as a technical lead/ SME for method development and validation activities
  • Provide training and guidance for the analytical development team to support their growth
  • Develop best practices for effective and efficient method development projects utilising commercial acumen.
  • Develop business case justification for investment in new technologies
  • Support scientific marketing and business development activities
  • Manage relationship with 3 rd party outsource companies

Key tasks

  • Communicate validated learning to help develop other team members and support commercial activities.
  • Act as a mentor/coach for the analytical development team. Arranging development and training along with overseeing delivery.
  • Manage the team and drive for consistency, efficiency, quality and improvement.
  • Apply commercial acumen to all activities of the team to support both client expectations and company profitability.
  • Set technical direction for the Analytical Development team, ensuring work is prioritised, resourced and delivered in line with client expectations, quality requirements and commercial objectives.
  • Ensure work is scheduled and delivered to agreed timelines. Monitoring progress and confirming delivery to budget and quality requirements.
  • Identifying gaps in the team’s knowledge/capability and taking appropriate action to address via internal/external training
  • Write and/or review technical documents such as: test methods, validation protocols, and reports
  • Perform technical reviews of method development and validation documentation
  • Take accountability for analysing and validating scientific data, interpreting and communicating hypotheses effectively through written and verbal communications.
  • Support the creation of sampling and testing strategies and plans for regulatory projects (e.g. FDA PMTA, MHRA MAA and others)
  • Write scientific publications / speak at events on specific areas of scientific expertise and innovations aligned with marketing activities.
  • Provide scientific consultancy to support commercial sales activities to win new clients. This may include input into commercial proposals, acting as the technical SME on sales calls, and presenting to clients during visits.
  • Perform other duties as and when required by the company.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

Preferred

Extensive experience in analytical method development optimisation and validation, with particular expertise in GC-MS and/or LC-MS with broader understanding of chromatographic and mass spectrometry techniques.

Experience in authoring and reviewing technical content for regulatory submissions.

Proven ability in technical writing and communications

Experience of acting as an SME for regulatory inspections and client audits.

Knowledge of ICH, USP, EP and other regulatory guidance relating to analytical method validation.

Experience in managing departmental KPIs, resource forecasting and laboratory capacity planning.

Proven ability to design, lead and deliver complex analytical development programmes within regulated laboratory environments.

Experience supporting analytical method transfers between laboratories.

Experience mentoring and coaching team members to support technical competency, career development and succession planning.

Experienced people manager, able to encourage and drive a team at various stages of their career

Commercial acumen, with experience supporting quotations and technical proposals.
