Role: Analytical Chemistry (Environmental Chemistry) Technical Assessor

Part-Time Contract Role

Location: Remote, UK-wide coverage

We are seeking a part-time Independent Technical Assessor specialising in Environmental Chemistry.

This independent, self-employed position involves ensuring that accredited laboratories comply with pollution control standards. As a Technical Assessor, you should possess extensive knowledge in monitoring water, soil, and air for composition and contamination, as well as an understanding of the relevant regulatory requirements.

This is an independent contracted position, and ongoing right to work in the UK is a pre-requisite of the position.

Experience Required:

  • Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited testing laboratory, analysing a broad range of environmental samples
  • Expertise in testing soils, water, and air samples using organic or inorganic analytical techniques to support environmental monitoring
  • Strong foundation in general chemistry, utilising both traditional wet chemistry and instrumental techniques
  • In-depth understanding of both internal and external quality control processes across a range of analytical techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of data performance checks and data integrity requirements to ensure test reliability
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with laboratory staff, management, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
  • Candidates should have experience in working within UK standards and regulatory frameworks

Key Skills:

  • Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 UK-accredited testing laboratory, supporting and developing the technical aspects of the quality system
  • Demonstrable, in-depth practical experience within a relevant sector
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry-standard methods and sector schemes (particularly DWTS and MCERTS)
  • Some experience with internal or external audits of laboratory technical activities is beneficial
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with laboratory staff, senior management, and support teams throughout the organisation

Guidance will be provided to enhance your skills in report writing to UKAS standards, with a focus on ISO/IEC 17025:2017 awareness and understanding of UKAS systems
