Job summary

bp is seeking an analytical technician to join the Low Carbon Innovation Centre in Hull. The role involves performing laboratory analyses using a variety of techniques to generate high-quality data and support research, product development and operational excellence.

You will work in a dedicated analytical chemistry team, ensuring safe operations and accurate test data. Experience with oil/petrochemical samples and ICP techniques is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in industry or commercial analytical laboratories.
• Experience with ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS techniques.
• Experience analyzing complex mixtures such as oil, petrochemical and/or biofeedstock samples.
• Ability to work independently in laboratory environment and a proven track record of attention to detail and generation of accurate test data.
• Formal qualifications in laboratory operations would be desirable.
• Experience with optional techniques such as auto-titrations, ICP, elemental analysis by combustion methods, and separations would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking laboratory analysis using a wide range of analytical techniques including proprietary procedures as well as international standards to generate high quality, timely results
• Delivering safe and compliant experimental operations, contributing to the development of a proactive safety culture.
• Daily running of lab equipment and apparatus, including setup, calibration, quality checks and basic problem solving
• Helping identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiency gains
