Job summary

Quaker Houghton seeks a Fluid Analysis Chemist for its Manchester laboratory. This is a 6-month fixed term contract onsite at Trafford Park with potential extension. You will perform tests, manage data, and support problem solving in a well-equipped analytical lab.

Ideal candidates have a chemistry degree and 1–3 years of lab experience, with strong knowledge of wet chemistry and GLP/COSHH principles. Proficiency in Office tools is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSc in Chemistry.
• Good knowledge of wet chemistry and laboratory health & safety.
• 1-3 years laboratory experience and working knowledge of GLP and COSHH.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory analysis for current or new products.
• Record, analyse and report observations and test results.
• Maintain equipment, glassware and workspace, and dispose of laboratory waste properly.
• Provide analytical service to internal and external customers based on expertise.

Job description

About the role

As a Fluid Analysis Chemist, you will perform laboratory testing, prepare and analyse customer samples, manage laboratory data, and contribute to technical problem-solving in a well-equipped analytical laboratory environment.

We offer a 6-month Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension to up to 9 months, subject to business needs.

Location: Fully onsite role based at our Manchester laboratory (Trafford Park)

Tasks

What You Will Do?

• Under close supervision, you will execute and conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis/tests in a laboratory setting for current and/or new products.
• Implement new or improved analytical test methods to enhance capabilities, efficiency, and accuracy (repeatability & reproducibility).
• Carry out prescribed analytical tests and determinations, in order to answer questions and address problems of customers.
• Accurately record, analyse and report laboratory observations and test results.
• Maintain equipment glassware and workspace in order to keep them clean and well-functioning. Properly dispose of all laboratory waste.
• Participate in ensuring good management of laboratory equipment and storage spaces for chemicals and raw materials. Comply with housekeeping rules.
• Provide analytical service and knowledge to internal and external customers based upon the chemists' current level of expertise.
• Occasionally visit customers when required to assist the Commercial team ( approx. 2 times per year).
• Ensure that all equipment and machines in your area of control are managed with regards to safety, maintenance, calibration, and availability.
• Perform project work in cooperation with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Requirements

What Are We Looking For:

• Minimum BSc in Chemistry
• Good knowledge of wet chemistry and all aspects of Laboratory health & safety
• Previous laboratory experience (1-3 years) and working knowledge of GLP and COSHH
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
