We seek a highly motivated Analyst Programmer to join our fantastic team in Grange Park, Northampton (NN4 5FB).

The position holder will be responsible for the ongoing development and support of operational solutions using the RPG IV development stack within our critical business applications on AS400/iSeries. This includes our warehouse management systems, WMi and Opus, as well as our transport management system, ESPv8.

You will be expected to work Monday to Friday, 0830-1700, and cover out of hours.

The salary is up to £50,000.00 per annum (DOE).

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical support for internal solutions developed on the AS400/iSeries platform.
  • Evaluate customer needs and requirements.
  • Present proposed options along with associated costs.
  • Document the programme development and solutions required to meet customer requirements.
  • Communicate any issues regarding expectation management promptly to both the business and the customer.
  • Use RPG IV/Free Format and SQL to develop and modify programmes that align with operational objectives.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and customer service.
  • Manage all phases of testing, including unit testing, integration testing, and assisting with user acceptance testing. Troubleshoot, debug, and rectify issues as needed.
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders and team members to ensure that the solution meets customer needs.


Key Skills:

  • Extensive and demonstrable experience with the following technologies: RPG III, RPG IV, RPG ILE, RPG Free Format, Query/400, and SQL/400.
  • Capable of developing applications and solutions that meet deadlines and requirements.
  • Worked on several development projects and possess thorough knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and associated tools.
  • Experienced in analysing and debugging code with a focus on making improvements.
  • Skilled in producing scope and functional specification documents.
  • Commercially aware and able to contribute to the creation of cost-benefit analyses.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build rapport at any level.
  • Quick to learn new systems.
  • Comfortable working under pressure to meet cost and time deadlines.
