  • Screen clients for increased risk indicators including sanctions, PEPs and reputational risk.
  • Escalate high-risk clients according to firm policy and regulatory requirements.

The Role

The role is based in Newcastle UK and forms part of a new consolidated Global New Business Risk Team (“GNBRT”). It reports directly to the Global New Business Risk Manager (Newcastle, UK). The team ultimately reports to the Head of Global New Business Risk (London, UK).

GNBRT is responsible for carrying out CDD & risk assessment procedures for new and existing clients of the global firm. Members of the GNBRT will continue to work in close co-operation with colleagues in regional business acceptance and conflicts teams to deliver as seamless and efficient service as possible.

The function operates on a “follow the sun” model which requires the team to handle a CDD and risk assessment workload originating outside of your home region. Training on international requirements (regulatory, systems and technical) will be provided.

This is role is a 12 month FTC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out CDD and risk assessments on low and medium risk new and existing clients in line with firm policy and applicable anti-money laundering and regulatory obligations, and advising partners, lawyers and the Regional Compliance Teams in relation to the same.
  • Assessing strategic fit, reputational, and sanctions exposure of clients and providing advice to partners, attorneys, and the Regional Compliance Teams as to appropriate risk mitigation steps (following internal escalation).
  • Managing own and shared priorities, ensuring all requests and offline enquiries are handled promptly.
  • Screening new and existing clients for increased risk indicators, including but not limited to, sanctions exposure, PEP exposure and reputational risk exposure.
  • Ensuring clients posing perceived increased risks are escalated appropriately in line with firm policy and regulatory requirements, making informed suggestions as to the appropriate course of action required.
  • Take ownership of requests and enquiries, carrying out a full risk analysis and liaising with the various stakeholders to the matter, including Partners and associates, communicating the progress of the matter at all stages to the interested parties.
  • Work to develop an understanding of the Firm’s key strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at all levels in Regional Compliance Teams to ensure consistent workflow and timely production.
  • Undertake any other projects and tasks as directed by the Global New Business Risk Manager or the Head of Global New Business Risk.
  • Collaborate with team members in all regions to work to find pragmatic solutions to issues that arise.

  • A high standard of professionalism, confidentiality and ability to stay calm in high pressure situations.
  • Willingness to embrace and adapt to change (with appropriate support and notice) in a positive manner and suggest innovative ways to add value to the practice.
  • Highly organised with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Committed to continual self-development by attending structured training sessions and learning on the job.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with Intapp suite of product preferred.
