Job description

Nearwater Capital is a rapidly growing and innovative specialty finance company headquartered in New York City with global operations and client base. Established in 2017, Nearwater has distinguished itself as a leader in delivering thoughtful, solutions-based financing to some of the largest financial institutions and financial services firms in the world.

As part of its strategic growth in Europe, Nearwater is expanding its London office origination presence. We are seeking a London-based Analyst/Associate that is dynamic, organized, and a quick learner for the expansion of Nearwater’s Liquid and Capital Markets businesses in Europe.

Role / Job Description

You will be a member of a team of Origination and Structuring specialists dedicated to Nearwater’s Liquid and Capital Markets businesses who partner with G-SIBs and SIFIs to provide funding and optimization strategies through specialized financing solutions.

You will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to the origination team. Some responsibilities include finding ways to organize materials and information, reviewing transaction documents, and streamlining workflows and processes.

Throughout the transaction execution lifecycle, you will help the origination team coordinate with various internal teams (legal, trading, operations) and client teams to advance and close transactions. The goal of the origination team will be to hand over the baton to the trading team once a specific transaction is closed.

Given the above responsibilities, interest in financing markets, funding, and derivatives is necessary. Interest in how swaps, repos, and securities lending agreements work, as well as banking and broker-dealer regulations, will be needed. Experience with basic financial modeling is also helpful.

Duties will include but not be limited to:
  1. New business origination activity
    • Prepare marketing materials and presentations for client meetings with Banks, Hedge Funds, and other financial institutions.
    • Participate in client dialog to support the Origination and client coverage process.
    • Help Origination drive and coordinate the new transaction process from introduction to closing and through ongoing trading including actively participating in the client commercial and legal negotiations.
    • Coordinating new transaction setup across various internal teams, such as legal, operations, compliance, trading, finance, and IT.
    • Help with research and new product development (i.e. new markets, asset classes, jurisdictions, and regulations).
  2. On-going business management
    • Quantitative models: Build cash flow models for pricing financing structures.
    • Manage on-going client relationships and live transactions to ensure smooth performance from inception to maturity.
    • Ensuring consistent application of firm policy and adhering to regulatory, financial, and legal obligations.
    • Recommending and implementing opportunities for automation and process improvements for more efficient work output across different time zones.
  3. Operating values
    • Demonstrating a commitment to excellence and performing to the highest standards.
    • Promoting an environment that supports and reflects the Nearwater brand.
    • Learn and interact with Nearwater’s team members, products, and business practices.
Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of financial instruments (stock loans, repos, and derivatives) combined with a passion for understanding how financial markets function.

  • Ability to work within an international team environment managing stakeholders across London, New York, and Dublin.
  • A pro-active self-starting positive attitude.
  • Solid work ethic and passion to learn and grow.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong quantitative and technical abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with numerous colleagues in a fast-paced environment adhering to tight deadlines.
  • 1-2 years of industry experience in banking is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Proven PowerPoint and Excel skills.
What’s In it For You:

Nearwater offers an attractive market compensation and benefits package. As a creative, intellectual capital firm, Nearwater is proud to be 100% work from office. Working with a small team in a rapidly growing firm provides ample opportunity for professional growth and development, as well as a steep career trajectory.

  • You will be joining a firm that is well established but still growing rapidly, and you will have the ability to impact the design of developing new business segments.
  • Be exposed to myriad interesting and complex issues surrounding financial structures, international jurisdictions, and transactions. Learn firsthand about the execution of your colleague’s responsibilities in Risk, Finance, Operations, and Compliance in a way that can only be obtained working in a small firm environment. You will be asked to deep dive into every facet of these transactions, and your insight will be relied upon.
  • Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment, in which you will learn something new every day.
  • A collaborative working environment where every voice is heard.
