Job description

Job Overview

We welcome applicants with backgrounds in Medicine, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, or Surgery. The successful candidate will be appointed to a core trainee level rota. Previous critical care experience is desirable but not essential.

We provide support and direct admission from our busy Emergency Department (which sees upwards of 130,000 patients annually), and we handle complex external referrals. The department runs a 24/7 nurse-led outreach service supported by ICU doctors. Additionally, there is a fortnightly critical care follow-up clinic.

Start Dates: Jobs for this role are available from April 2025 to August 2025. Other start dates may be considered depending on available positions.

Note: This vacancy may close before the listed deadline. Applicants are advised to submit their applications promptly.

Main Duties

The unit specializes in long-term weaning, psychology of critical illness, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, infection control, peri-operative medicine, and emergency medicine. It also has expertise in echocardiography, diagnostic ultrasound, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and health services research. Candidates will be supported to gain experience in these areas and prepare for specialty exams in Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, or Emergency Medicine through collaborations with UCLH departments.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and MBBS or equivalent qualifications. Desirable qualifications include MRCP, MRCS, Primary FRCA, or MCEM (or equivalents).
