Job Description:

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Ambulance Care Assistant (Secure Mental Health) to join our team based in Burgess Hill, Sussex.

We are looking for enthusiastic, care-focused individuals to join our Safe Care Division (Secure Mental Health). If you're passionate about people and want to make a difference, consider a career with us. Experience in care, security, prison, or public service backgrounds is preferred.

Your main responsibility will be supporting police and other professionals in transporting service users to and from healthcare facilities. This can be done alone or as part of a team, so a full UK driving license is essential. Full training will be provided.

This is a full-time role, working 12-hour shifts on a 4 on 4 off rota, including weekends, covering 24 hours a day. Please only apply if you can commit to these hours.

Main Duties:

  • Supporting the service user on board as part of a team
  • Ensuring safe vehicle operation
  • Assisting with challenging behaviour and mental health issues
  • Supporting physical interventions if needed
  • Transporting service users between locations, including hospitals and prisons
  • Liaising with hospital staff and police for safety
  • Handling, securing, and assisting with patient transfer
  • Maintaining ambulance safety, cleanliness, and tidiness

Successful candidates will have:

  • Full manual UK driving license
  • Experience in care, security, prison, or public service
  • Commitment to patient care and rapport building
  • Effective communication skills
  • Calm, careful driving with no more than six penalty points
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Physical fitness for patient handling and restraint
  • Problem-solving skills and behavioural awareness
