Job summary

EMED Group is seeking Ambulance Care Assistants for our Nottingham (NG2) operation. This full-time, permanent role involves transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to appointments and between facilities, in two-person crews or solo, with a UK manual driving licence and good physical fitness required.

Working shifts Mon-Sun between 05:30 and 00:00, you will contribute to compassionate patient care and join a values-driven team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in patient care or healthcare settings is preferred.
  • Excellent communication with patients, families and staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in potentially emotional situations.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts and be flexible with hours.

Responsibilities

  • Transport elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to medical appointments and between facilities.
  • Assist with patient handling and transfers as part of ambulance crew.
  • Maintain a high level of empathy and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Support handovers to receiving staff and families as required.
  • Keep ambulances clean, safe and well-maintained.

We have a fantastic opportunity for Ambulance Care Assistants to join our team based in Nottingham (NG2).

This is a full time/permanent position. You will be working varying shifts Mon - Sun between the hours of 05:30am and 00:00am.

You must be available for a start date of Monday 21st September

An Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) is a hugely rewarding and fulfilling role. Each day, you’ll be helping someone in need, making their lives that little bit easier, and knowing that you make a difference to their day provides you with a real sense of achievement.

Your main responsibility will be transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from their medical appointments and between healthcare facilities. This can be carried out as two-person crews or alone, so it is vital to hold a full UK manual driving licence and to have a good degree of physical fitness.

Other duties include:
  • Transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from their medical appointments and between healthcare facilities.
  • Assisting in the transportation of ‘end of life’ service users, ensuring a high level of empathy is present at all times
  • Building rapport by effectively communicating with patients and their relatives/friends
  • Responsible for lifting, securing and helping service users in and out of the Ambulance
  • Assist with the handing over of patients to appropriate staff on arrival at treatment centres/hospital’s or to family/friends at their homes.
  • Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs or similar both in and out of hospital and medical/commercial flights.
  • Assisting service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses
  • Ensuring that the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy
To be considered as an ACA, you will need to be:
  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence, (6 points maximum)
  • Committed to patient care
  • An effective communicator and experience of communicating with others in what can often be emotional circumstances
  • To be a calm, considerate, careful driver
  • To have a natural flair for team working and collaboration
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded)
  • Familiar with the local and surrounding area
  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence with less than 6 points
  • Be physically fit for patient handling and moving.
  • Be able to work flexible shifts between 05:30am and 00:00, Monday to Sunday (with notice)
