Job summary

Barker Ross Group is seeking a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join an established SME building contractor in England. You will handle estimating, procurement and commercial management across projects from £25k to £4m, with exposure to refurbishment, fit-out and new builds.

You'll balance tendering, site commercial tasks and final accounts, with progression opportunities as the business expands and takes on larger contracts.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or QS/Estimator within a main contractor.
• Strong estimating/tendering and commercial management experience.
• Experience across refurbishment, fit-out, maintenance, alteration and/or new build.
• Experience with projects broadly within the £25k-£4m range.
• Strong knowledge of procurement, valuations, variations, cost control, forecasting and final accounts.
• Experience managing subcontractor packages and supply-chain relationships.
• Strong Excel and IT skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates, tender build-ups and pricing submissions.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Obtain, analyse and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Identify risks, scope gaps, exclusions and commercial opportunities.
• Support tender negotiations, value engineering and public-sector bids.
• Manage project costs, valuations, variations, forecasting and final accounts.
• Manage subcontractor packages and commercial negotiations.
• Produce cost-value reconciliations and commercial reports.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Work closely with Contracts Managers and senior management to manage commercial risks and maximise opportunities.
