Our clients based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, are looking to recruit a production manager. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Aluminium department.

You will ensure that the operating systems, people, and procedures deliver quality products in an efficient, cost-effective, and timely manner.

You will be responsible for managing the Aluminium department's performance, setting and agreeing on objectives and KPIs.

You should work with the leadership team to improve people capability to achieve an empowered, skilled, and engaged team, including training and coordinating the training of CI tools and techniques, developing and delivering training materials, and ensuring measurement systems provide the necessary information to focus on the right business issues.

You will be responsible for:

  • Establishing a strong culture of operational standards as a foundation for continuous improvement;
  • Developing excellent internal working relationships with managers across the business;
  • Driving efficiency and identifying, agreeing, and implementing improvements in internal processes to enhance service delivery, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction;
  • Organising and overseeing all health and safety requirements for the department;
  • Utilising problem-solving skills to support colleagues and assist with resolving issues as required.

You will also:

  • Develop ownership of operational improvements throughout the line management structure;
  • Manage the department in line with the department plan, leading the team to deliver goals and ensuring staff engagement;
  • Work closely with the management team and Supervisors/Team Leaders to plan work, set targets, and ensure products meet quality standards and deadlines;
  • Ensure all staff comply with safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment;
  • Monitor product standards and implement quality control programs;
  • Monitor progress and achievement of objectives and KPIs, aligning them with overall business goals;
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures;
  • Support and develop personnel through coaching, mentoring, and feedback;
  • Maintain regular communication with the team for smooth operations;
  • Manage team performance and conduct annual reviews;
  • Review and align department and individual objectives with business goals;
  • Conduct regular supervision with Production Operatives;
  • Ensure staff induction, probation reviews, and training needs are addressed;
  • Assess training requirements and ensure team members are up-to-date with processes and procedures;
  • Plan and manage time effectively, including contingency planning for risks;
  • Plan project activities and optimize resource use;
  • Utilise data to draft action plans and communicate priorities;
  • Collect additional data as needed and analyse to identify root causes;
  • Develop and present business cases for investments, including cost justifications;
  • Implement quality management and regulatory compliance strategies;
  • Maintain a safe operating environment, organise health & safety checks, and adhere to legislative requirements;
  • Respond to and resolve customer issues promptly;
  • Ensure work areas are secure and monitor service quality, complying with CAR reporting and rectification processes;
  • Manage space and equipment utilization efficiently;
  • Work in accordance with health and safety regulations, reporting near misses and RIDDOR;
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned.
