Job description

Are you a compassionate and experienced educator with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people? Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated Alternative Provision Tutor to support a young person transitioning into Year 8, who is currently working at a Key Stage 2 level in English and Maths.



About the Learner:

  • At risk of permanent exclusion (PEX)
  • Requires support in Maths, English, and PSHE
  • Presents with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs
  • Can become emotionally dysregulated
  • Needs a calm, positive, and trauma-informed approach
  • Building a trusting, consistent relationship is key


As an Alternative Provision Tutor you will:

  • Deliver 1:1 tuition for 15 hours per week (flexible timing)
  • Create a safe, supportive learning environment
  • Tailor sessions to meet the learner's academic and emotional needs
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the learner's care

About you:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in UK schools as a TA, SEN TA, Cover Supervisor, Teacher, SENCO, or similar
  • Experience supporting learners with SEMH needs
  • Skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
  • Patient, empathetic, and able to build rapport and trust
  • Confident in delivering KS2-level Maths and English, and engaging PSHE content

Position - Alternative Provision Tutor
Contract or position start date - ASAP

Full time/part-time - Opportunities for both
Hours - 10 Hours per week- for the right candidate, this can be increased to full time with additional tuition opportunities


Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

      • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL


      • Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable

  • Hold right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide references upon request
  • Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
