Job description

As our Alcohol Substance Misuse Nurse based in Rotherham, you will provide a range of Health and Wellbeing, and harm reduction interventions to our clients in accordance with the agreed model of service delivery. You will deliver high standards of nursing care to substance misusers and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.

Main duties of the job

You will be an advocate for our clients, working closely with them to identify the physical, psychological, spiritual, and social support they need. The postholder will work flexibly, providing a high standard of nursing care in various settings, promoting the health and wellbeing of clients while maintaining a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment. As an Alcohol Substance Misuse Nurse, you will participate as an active member of the nursing and multidisciplinary teams, accountable for your practice, and work in partnership with other healthcare professionals, psycho-social case managers, patients, and others in the delivery of care. The role will also include hospital liaison duties, administering vaccinations and medication, and conducting health screenings such as phlebotomy, BBV screening, monitoring vital signs, withdrawal scales, and treatment compliance for clients undergoing detoxification.

This role is a Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2026, with working hours Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.   • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
Experience
  • Experience in comprehensive needs assessment and risk assessment
  • Experience working in substance misuse settings
  • Experience delivering nursing interventions in community settings
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol issues
  • Experience with harm reduction and recovery planning in substance misuse
  • Knowledge of safe drug storage, handling, and administration, especially controlled drugs
  • Understanding of the NMC code of conduct
  • Experience with risk assessment and management
  • Understanding agency roles in drug and alcohol response
  • Ability to work constructively with diverse groups and individuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
