Job summary

Expleo Group is seeking an AIT Test Technician to join a space sector project at the client facility in Portsmouth. You will execute electrical and functional tests on engineering test benches and spacecraft in a cleanroom, preparing set-ups, taking measurements and compiling test reports.

The role requires willingness to work shift patterns with premium pay and travel within the UK, and occasionally Europe, to support test campaigns.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an HNC or NVQ Level 4 in an Electrical Engineering related discipline or relevant experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

• Perform test operations including integration, test setup installation and connection, validation and acceptance tests.
• Installation and calibration of test set-ups and execution of tests per client procedures.
• Support first‑level troubleshooting on test benches and tools; escalate to technical support when required.
• Fill and archive documentation and back up test results; operate in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment.

Job description

Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector we are looking for AIT Test Technicians. The role will be based at our customer’s facility in Portsmouth and the candidates should be prepared to work shift when required (for which a premium will be paid) and travel within the UK and exceptionally Europe in support of test campaigns.

This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious individuals to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation. The successful candidates will be engaged in executing electrical and functional test procedures on engineering test benches and flight spacecraft in accordance with Work Orders, test procedures and processes. Preparing electrical test set-up, making electrical measurements and executing functional tests on the spacecraft in the cleanroom. Preparing test reports and supporting test reviews.

Responsibilities

• Perform test operations, including:
  • Integration test execution
  • Test setup installation and connection
  • Validation tests, RF testing, acceptance tests
• Installation and calibration of test set‑ups
• Execute tests in accordance with client procedures
• Support first‑level troubleshooting on test benches and tools
• Escalate to technical support when nominal test sequence cannot be followed
• Disconnect, remove and store test fixtures
• Fill and archive documentation, back up test results
• Operate in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment

Qualifications

• Minimum of an HNC or NVQ Level 4 in an Electrical Engineering related discipline or relevant experience in a similar role

Essential Skills

• Ability to understand/follow:
  • Test procedures
  • Payload technical documentation
  • EGSE documentation (user manual)
• Ability to perform:
  • Integration testing
  • Acceptance testing
• Ability to perform first‑level troubleshooting on test benches
• Strong documentation discipline (archiving, backing up test data)

Desired Skills

• Ability to perform RF testing

Experience

• Experience working in a high‑quality production environment relating to Electromechanical assembly
• Experience working in a cleanroom environment, including FOD/ESD practices
• Experience interacting with payload technical documentation, test aids, harness definitions, and EGSE documentation

What Do I Need Before I Apply

• Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the clients Portsmouth site 5 days per week
• Ability and willingness to support the following client repeating shift pattern:
  • 4 days (06:00-18:00) @ x1.2 pay uplift
  • 4 days off
  • 4 nights (18:00-06:00) @ x1.33 pay uplift
  • 4 days off
• Ability and willingness to travel to and work on other client sites in pursuit of test campaigns
• Exceptionally, ability and willingness to travel to and work on other client European sites in pursuit of test campaigns
