Job summary

Morson Edge at RAF Valley, Isle of Anglesey, is seeking an Aircraft Mechanical Supervisor to join the Hawk depth maintenance team. The role blends hands-on engineering with leadership within a structured defence programme.

The successful candidate will supervise maintenance activities, drive safety standards, and develop supervisory capabilities in a military aviation environment, with a four-day week and long weekends.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (ideally Aeronautical).
  • City & Guilds 2675 Aeronautical Engineering & Maintenance or NVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical discipline.
  • Aircraft platform training relevant to the Hawk fleet.
  • Trade Principles training for maintenance personnel.
  • Good IT competency for technical documentation and MOE compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake and supervise aircraft depth maintenance and diagnostic activities.
  • Carry out inspections, repairs, modifications, and system testing.
  • Analyse and diagnose faults on aircraft systems and components.
  • Support maintenance delivery against operational and programme requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to maintenance technicians.
  • Promote best practice and a proactive maintenance culture within the team.
  • Carry out MOE compliance activities and tooling oversight.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Overview

Morson Edge is supporting the recruitment of an Aircraft Mechanical Supervisor to join a military aviation team supporting Hawk aircraft depth maintenance at RAF Valley.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced aircraft engineer or supervisor looking to combine hands‑on engineering with leadership responsibility within a highly respected defence aviation programme. Working within a structured maintenance environment, you will support aircraft availability, technical standards, and team performance while developing your supervisory and leadership capabilities.

Shift Pattern
  • Monday – Wednesday: 07:00 – 17:00
  • Thursday: 07:00 – 16:30

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake and supervise aircraft depth maintenance and diagnostic activities
  • Carry out inspections, repairs, modifications, and system testing
  • Analyse and diagnose faults on aircraft systems and components
  • Support maintenance delivery against operational and programme requirements
  • Provide technical leadership and support to maintenance technicians
  • Promote best practice and a proactive maintenance culture within the team
  • Carry out compliance‑related support activities including tooling control and oversight checks
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with approved procedures and Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) requirements
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and regulatory compliance
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Previous hands‑on aircraft engineering or mechanical maintenance experience
  • Strong engineering knowledge and fault diagnostic capability
  • Experience working within safety‑critical or regulated maintenance environments
  • Ability to lead, influence, and support maintenance personnel
  • Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills
  • Commitment to high standards of safety, quality, and professional conduct
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain BPSS and SC Security Clearance
