Job description

The role: Mechanic

Your focus will be on ensuring all aircraft in our fleet are airworthy. This means going above and beyond the standard set out by regulators to meet our own Engineering Quality procedures. This will involve carrying out a range of specific maintenance tasks, from component changes and routine checks to general visual and surveillance inspections. Recording and documenting these changes will also be a core part of your role.

What you’ll do:

1. Under supervision, perform servicing and maintenance tasks as directed on aircraft or components as appropriate.
2. Drive and operate vehicles, including mechanical handling, lifting equipment, and elevated work platforms, within permit limits.
3. Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to quality, health and safety, and housekeeping standards.
4. Carry out required IT and documentation transactions.
5. Support the development of a high-performance team and culture, in line with the company Hallmarks.
6. Support the delivery of departmental and directorate objectives.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

• Ability to understand technical publications and engineering procedures.
• Mechanical aptitude, demonstrates airworthiness, with at least 3 months recent practical engineering experience. Internal candidates should have this supported by the relevant Mechanic sections of the Engineers logbook.
• Self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Your Experience:

• At least 12 months demonstrable experience as an aircraft mechanic.
• Good engineering hand skills and the ability to follow procedures and technical documentation.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; PC literate.
• Experience working with engineering and document management systems.
• UK Manual Driving Licence; Airside Driving Licence is desirable.
