Job summary

GKN Aerospace at Filton specialises in the design and manufacture of large, complex wing structures and components for civil and military aircraft. We offer fixed-term and permanent roles with flexible hours, including a 7-day fortnight shift pattern and 25% shift premium.

Starting salary £36,717 with progression to £38,220 plus bonus and pension benefits. Successful candidates will hold a Level 3 apprenticeship and NVQ in fitting, be able to work in small teams, and follow strict quality

Qualifications

  • Must have Level 3 apprenticeship and NVQ (or equivalent) in fitting or similar field.
  • Export controls understanding and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure parts are produced right first time.
  • Keep calibrated equipment within date.
  • Use SAP system to clear work phases on time.
  • Highlight non-conformances to the Process Team Leader.
  • Adhere to GKNAF Quality Procedures.
  • Maintain Health & Safety requirements under HASAWA 1974.

Job description

assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. We are currently searching qualified fitters to operate as multi-skilled, flexible workers to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency within our areas. Successful applicants will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:

  • Precussion riveting
  • Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
  • Setting structures in build jigs
  • Deburring of structures
  • Fettling using approved setting tools
  • Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
  • Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
  • Part Marking + Identifying

We have fixed-term and permanent opportunities available, as well as full-time and part-time working hours to fit around you. Our 7-day fortnight shift pattern involves working 07:00am-18:45pm on the following days (which includes 25% shift premium): Week 1: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday Week 2: Monday

How You’ll Contribute
  • Ensure parts are produced on a 'right first time' basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
What You’ll Bring
  • Essential: A recognised Level 3 apprenticeship and NVQ (Or equivalent) in fitting or a similar relevant field
  • Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures
  • Must be able to work in small teams
  • with Team Leaders
  • Self-motivated team player with good communication skills
  • Desirable: Previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
