Job summary

Lydd International Airport is seeking an Air Traffic Service Assistant to support the Control Tower and ATCOs in delivering safe, orderly, and expeditious air traffic operations. You will gain extensive in-house training and opportunities for external training.

Role involves operating communications, relaying instructions, and handling weather and flight data tasks. A DBS check is required and weekend/bank holiday shifts are part of the roster.

Qualifications

• Good numeracy and written/spoken English.
• Familiarity with computer systems and applications.
• For the duration of employment, a current, clean DBS check to satisfy airport security standards.
• 5yr work/academic history check.
• Good organisational skills and able to multi-task.
• Team worker and customer focused.
• Enthusiastic and flexible, prepared to work shifts including weekends/bank holidays/unsociable hours.
• Knowledge or experience within the aviation industry.
• Met Observer’s Certificate an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and making operational telephone calls.
• Relaying ATCO instructions to vehicles by ground UHF radio.
• Coordinating refuelling and marshalling by UHF radio.
• Processing flight plans and related messages.
• Preparing and updating flight data strips.
• Preparing and disseminating weather observations.
• Updating ATIS and ATCO ops display board.
• Carrying out basic daily equipment checks and recording data.
• Maintaining aircraft movement log and statistics.
• Filing, displaying, updating operational paperwork.
• Liaising with based and external emergency services.
• Completing local incident reports.
• Liaising with other Airport Departments and Operators.
• Ensuring adequate supplies of stationery in ATC.
• Ensuring the Control Tower is tidy.
• Undertaking basic maintenance of metrological equipment.
