Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Air Quality Consultant. We are seeking candidates who are looking to work on some of the largest and most interesting air quality and carbon projects in the UK. The position is permanent with the opportunity for hybrid home/office working with a base in Epsom, Birmingham or Manchester.

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancies, responding to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects. The Air Quality and Emissions team is part of an award-winning, multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy practice, providing air quality consultancy and emissions management services for a wide range of land development, transport, and energy clients. We work with local and national governments, multi-national industrial clients, funding agencies and lenders, property developers, infrastructure contractors, and regulatory authorities.

We are seeking someone who prides themselves on delivering technically excellent work, with high reporting standards, and who embraces innovative approaches to assessment. You will work on desk and field-based air quality, dust, odour impact assessments for planning applications, emissions calculations and dispersion modelling, action planning and mitigation for air and carbon emissions, specialist services for environmental permit applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, and technical advisory services including developing guidance and tools. You will be expected to lead tasks and provide technical support to colleagues. You will work as part of a team of professionals across the business to deliver integrated services to our clients.

The role will include:

  1. Designing and undertaking air quality surveys, analysing and interpreting data.
  2. Producing air quality, dust, odour, and carbon assessments for infrastructure projects.
  3. Advising on and identifying solutions for mitigating air pollution and carbon emissions.
  4. Preparing and delivering reports.
  5. Managing your own workload and that of others within budgets and programmes.
  6. Contributing to bids and business development activities.
  7. Continuously developing technical and digital skills.

About you:

Ideally, you will have:

  • A higher degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject.
  • Knowledge of air quality and carbon issues, policies, and standards.
  • Experience with modelling and assessment techniques.
  • Experience analysing data using spreadsheet and GIS tools.
  • Experience reporting and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in IT applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • An understanding of health and safety risk management.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for surveys.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in air quality consultancy.
  • Experience preparing emission inventories.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis packages or programming languages.
  • Experience working with other environmental disciplines.
  • Experience working unsupervised on site.
  • Project management experience.
