Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a hands-on AI Research Engineer - Vice President to lead applied research within the IPB Tech AIML team. You will evaluate, prototype, and productionise emerging techniques across open-source LLMs, fine-tuning, and multimodal models, bridging them into shipped capabilities.

This VP-level role reports to the Head of AI, IPB Tech and partners with engineers to turn research into production-grade solutions with measurable impact.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification in AI/ML with applied experience.
• Advanced Python and ML/DL framework knowledge (PyTorch, Hugging Face).
• Hands-on experience evaluating, fine-tuning, and deploying LLMs.
• Strong grounding in experimental design, evaluation, and benchmarking of ML systems.
• Bridge research and engineering: prototypes that become production-ready capabilities.
• Awareness of inference cost, performance, and optimization techniques.
• Strong communication skills translating research to business terms.
• Publication in top AIML venues or equivalent contributions in LLMs/fine-tuning/efficiency.
• MSc or PhD in ML/CS or equivalent applied experience.

Responsibilities

• Leads applied research into open-source LLM evaluation and deployment for cost, sovereignty, and data-residency optionality.
• Runs fine-tuning work for tone, lexicon, and domain-specific tasks.
• Investigates inference efficiency and tokenomics: cost-per-output, model routing, production inference optimization.
• Prototypes voice and image/multimodal capabilities to underpin future user-facing experiences.
• Designs rigorous evaluation methodologies and benchmarks so research findings are measurable and reproducible.
• Partners with AI and platform engineers to productionise research outputs tied to real platform needs.
• Publishes internal findings and raises the team's capability through knowledge-sharing; acts as a recruiting magnet.
