As the AI Strategy Lead, you will be responsible for advising cross-functional projects to ensure that our AI estate adds value to projects while ensuring we mature our AI capability. The role is strategic, but some technical skills could be beneficial to facilitate the production of POCs and MVPs.

You will need to effectively communicate the benefits of AI technologies to both IT and Business audiences to facilitate adoption where relevant. You will be seen as an expert in the field and understand how AI can help JM achieve its strategic goals. This will involve delivering technical solutions and helping build a community within JM to exploit AI tech across all functions.

You will work alongside delivery leads, software engineers, automated testers, designers, and architects, as well as deeply integrate with stakeholders outside of IT and within the business. This is a rare chance to shape the technical direction of a 200-year-old company.

Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities support and integrate technologies, and offer insights into future IT tools that could provide a competitive edge and operational efficiencies.

Johnson Matthey, a FTSE 250 organization, is a global leader in sustainable technologies, specializing in catalysis, precious metal products, chemicals, and process technology. With operations in over 30 countries, we employ more than 12,600 people. With over 200 years of success, be part of our next growth stage and help maintain our reputation as an admired organization. Our culture and people give us a competitive advantage and will ensure our success for years to come. You can be part of that success story.

Your responsibilities:

  1. Champion AI: Advocate for AI as a strategic game-changer across the organization. Identify and promote use cases where AI can unlock new discoveries, optimize processes, and enhance our competitive advantage.
  2. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with business leaders, engineering teams, and enterprise architects. Collaborate to ensure seamless AI integration that maximizes business value and aligns with IT architecture goals.
  3. Strategy & Roadmap: Lead the development of a comprehensive AI strategy and roadmap aligned with company goals. Facilitate collaboration to meet business needs and IT objectives.
  4. Solution Development: Lead the development and deployment of AI solutions. Collaborate with technical teams to ensure effective, ethical implementation, adhering to best practices and regulatory requirements. Incorporate FinOps from project inception to delivery to ensure business value.
  5. POC Development & Validation: Lead the development and execution of Proof-of-Concept projects to validate AI solutions' feasibility and potential value.
  6. Thought Leadership & Vision: Establish yourself as an AI thought leader, stay current on trends, and share insights through presentations, articles, or conferences.

Requirements for the role:

  • Technical Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field. Equivalent experience considered.
  • Strong understanding of AI capabilities and their application to drive business value.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including engaging with senior management on technical topics.
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud providers, and/or FinOps experience is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to build strategic relationships across teams and organizations to achieve business goals.
  • Ability to navigate complex issues and communicate complex information simply.

How you will be rewarded:

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, including bonus, excellent pension contributions, and 25 days of annual leave (varies for shift roles).

At JM, an inclusive culture is core to our values and future ambitions. We are committed to ensuring everyone can bring their full self to work and thrive. We welcome everyone, regardless of their characteristics, experiences, or thoughts, to bring diverse perspectives to address global challenges. Truly inclusive environments value all contributions and foster a sense of belonging at JM.
