Job summary
OMNIA Training is seeking an AI Solution Engineer to transform British Army training with AI/ML capabilities. You will collaborate in a matrix organization across OMNIA and the British Army, delivering AI/ML solutions, data prep, model evaluation, and automation while upholding secure DevSecOps standards.
You will work with Python, ML frameworks, and production ML pipelines, contributing to ethical AI practices, documentation, and stakeholder communications in a defence context.

You’ll work in a matrix organisation and report operationally through OMNIA Training and functionally through the OMNIA AI Solution Architect. Ultimately, you’ll work for the British Army, championing innovation, and helping shape the future of military collective training.
- Support the development and implementation of AI/ML solutions ensuring alignment with Army training objectives and Omnia architecture principles.
- Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML solutions aligned to Army training objectives and enterprise architecture principles.
- Support the development and maintenance of ML pipelines including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, and performance evaluation.
- Support integration of AI capabilities into secure operational environments, ensuring compatibility with DevSecOps pipelines and platform constraints.
- Monitor deployed models, analyse performance metrics, and implement tuning or retraining strategies to maintain operational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with data engineers and software teams to support scalable, maintainable, and secure AI components.
- Review and apply ethical AI principles including bias mitigation, data governance, and regulatory compliance in defence contexts.
- Support the production of high-quality technical documentation to support maintainability, auditability, and knowledge transfer.
- Support stakeholder engagement through demonstrations, technical briefings, and translation of complex AI concepts into accessible insights.
- Investigate emerging AI tools and platforms for applicability to Army training use cases.
- Support the development of technical capability through structured learning.

You’ll have a mission focus, and the enthusiasm and drive to ‘get things done’. You’ll want to work in collaboration with other defence training organisations, and the British Army. You won’t let bureaucracy get in the way of what needs to be done, you’ll learn lessons and share these lessons across the team. You’ll understand what it means to put the mission first.
The successful candidate will support the development and integration of AI/ML models aligned with Army training goals and OMNIA architecture, assisting with data preparation, model evaluation, and workflow automation. They will collaborate with technical teams, document processes, monitor model performance, and contribute to ethical AI practices. The role also involves learning emerging technologies, supporting stakeholder communications, and working within DevSecOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment and continuous improvement.
- Python programming skills for AI/ML development.
- Experience with at least one major ML framework (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
- Experience building and maintaining end-to-end ML pipelines (data ingestion, preprocessing, training, evaluation, deployment) and deployment to production environments.
- Understanding of feature engineering, model validation, and performance evaluation techniques.
- Experience integrating ML components into software systems via APIs or microservices.
- Experience working with version control (Git) and collaborative engineering practices
- Experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience working with cloud or controlled compute environments
- Ability to document technical solutions for maintainability, audit, and operational support
- Understanding of secure coding principles and data protection requirements
- Awareness of responsible AI considerations (bias mitigation, explainability, privacy)
- Analytical and problem-solving capability
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience collaborating within cross-functional engineering teams
- Security cleared or ability to obtain (SC or above).
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Postgraduate qualification in AI, Data Science, or related field
- Ability to work within regulated or governed environments and frameworks
- Ability to document technical solutions for maintainability, audit, and operational support
- Relevant cloud, AI, or security certifications
- Experience deploying ML models into production environments
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or cloud-native deployment architectures
- Experience with MLOps tooling (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, model monitoring platforms)
- Experience applying DevSecOps practices within cloud or controlled environments
- Exposure to large language models or generative AI systems
- Experience with data engineering tools (e.g. Spark, Airflow, Databricks)
- Experience applying AI and automation to operational or productivity-focused use cases
- Experience working in secure, restricted, or air-gapped environments
- Experience supporting systems subject to accreditation or compliance processes

- Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
- Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
- Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). If you live within a reasonable commute of an RTX site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.

Requires advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project management. Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
