Job description

About Medly

We're on a mission to change education forever.

Since launching 4 months ago, we've created an iOS app with retention rates better than Duolingo's, serving over 30,000 MAUs. Additionally, we've developed a Webapp for serious study, where we recently ran the first-ever national GCSE Mocks, all autonomously proctored and marked by AI. Over 24,000 students sat these exams, and the Webapp has over 50,000 MAUs. We achieved this rapid growth at an incredible pace and are looking for an ambitious individual to join us during this exponential growth phase.

Backed by impact-focused venture funds and supported by partners including UCL, Innovate UK, Microsoft, and Google, we're scaling quickly to become the leading AI tutor and assessment platform for major exams worldwide.

The Role

We're seeking an exceptional upcoming graduate or postgraduate AI/ML Engineer to join our innovative team and help shape the future of personalized education. In this role, you'll enhance our multi-layered LLM architecture to deliver truly personalized learning journeys and create tailored content to optimize students' exam performance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and optimise strategies for validating high-quality educational content, including videos, diagrams, and interactive materials.
  2. Enhance our proprietary architecture that combines teaching theory, neuroscience, and AI to create personalized learning experiences.
  3. Collaborate with our education team to ensure content alignment.
  4. Improve our language analysis and progress tracking LLMs to better assess student understanding.
  5. Work closely with the full-stack development team to integrate AI solutions into our platform.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of 1st class BSc from a Russell Group university in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field; MSc preferred.
  • At least 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and optimizing production-grade AI systems, especially with transformer-based architectures.
  • Proven academic achievement in secondary education.
  • Demonstrable experience in prompt engineering for complex use cases, with examples of innovative applications.
  • Deep expertise in fine-tuning and optimizing multi-LLM architectures with measurable performance improvements.
  • Experience building AI systems that maintain scientific accuracy while generating educational content at scale.
  • Published research or significant contributions to open-source projects related to educational AI or personalized learning systems.
  • Ability to balance theoretical AI knowledge with practical implementation in user-facing applications.
  • Experience developing evaluation frameworks to measure AI accuracy in educational contexts.
  • Strong understanding of recent advancements in multimodal AI models for generating visual, textual, and interactive content.
  • Ability to work from our Kings Cross office at least 4 days a week, with Wednesdays as work-from-home.
Why Join Medly?
  • Led by founders who are medical doctors with firsthand experience of educational inequalities, passionate about industry change.
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact on educational equity and students' lives.
  • Work with cutting-edge AI technology in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • Collaborative team led by founders with backgrounds in medicine and neuroscience.
  • High-paying graduate entry role.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company with strong institutional partnerships and backing.
