Job description

About Medly

We're on a mission to change education forever.

Since launching 4 months ago we've created an iOS app that has retention rates better than that of Duolingo, with over 30,000 MAUs. At the same time we've also created a Webapp for more serious study where we recently ran the first ever national GCSE Mocks, all autonomously proctored and marked by AI. Over 24,000 sat these exams and the Webapp has over 50,000 MAUs. We achieved all this at an insane pace and we're looking for someone ambitious to join us on our current stage of exponential growth.

Backed by impact focused venture funds and supported by partners including UCL, Innovate UK, Microsoft, and Google, we're scaling rapidly to become the go-to AI tutor and assessment platform for all major exams worldwide.

The Role

We're seeking an exceptional upcoming graduate/post graduate AI/ML Engineer to join our innovative team and help shape the future of personalised education. In this role, you'll work on enhancing our multi-layered LLM architecture to deliver truly personalised learning journeys for every student. You will also be working to create personalised content for students to optimise their examination performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimise strategies for validating high-quality educational content including videos, diagrams, and interactive materials
  • Enhance our proprietary architecture which combines teaching theory, neuroscience, and AI to create personalised learning experiences
  • Collaborate with our education team to ensure content alignment
  • Improve our language analysis and progress tracking LLMs to better assess student understanding
  • Work closely with the full-stack development team to integrate AI solutions into our platform
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of 1st class BSc from Russell Group university in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field; MSc preferred
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and optimising production-grade AI systems, particularly with transformer-based architectures
  • Impeccable history of academic achievement within secondary education
  • Proven track record in prompt engineering for complex use cases, with demonstrable examples of novel applications that pushed boundaries
  • Deep expertise in fine-tuning and optimising multi-LLM architectures with measurable performance improvements
  • Experience building AI systems that maintain scientific accuracy while generating educational content at scale
  • Published research or significant contributions to open-source projects related to educational AI or personalised learning systems
  • Demonstrated ability to balance theoretical AI knowledge with practical implementation in user-facing applications
  • Experience developing robust evaluation frameworks to measure AI accuracy, particularly in educational contexts
  • Strong understanding of the latest advancements in multimodal AI models for generating visual, textual, and interactive content
  • Able to commute 4 out of 5 days a week to our office in Kings Cross, with Wednesday being work from home
