Job summary

White & Case is seeking a Legal Engineer to design and implement AI-powered workflows that streamline complex cross-border matters. The role sits within the Innovation & AI function and the Applied AI Lab, delivering structured, data-driven solutions in collaboration with lawyers, technologists and clients.

You will build repeatable processes, set prompts and evaluation criteria, and help shape the strategy and adoption of AI-powered tools across multiple offices globally.

Qualifications

• At least three years in legal practice, legal tech, management consulting or a technical role supporting legal workflows.
• Experience with generative AI and large language models; able to discuss prompts, schemas and model behaviour.
• Ability to turn messy processes into structured, repeatable systems across legal workflows and AI projects.
• Fluent translation between lawyers and engineers; understand both perspectives.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI-powered workflows for faster, higher-quality legal work.
• Re-engineer manual workflows for AI-first execution; identify where AI adds value.
• Translate tacit legal knowledge into prompts, schemas, and evaluation rubrics for AI systems.
• Own prompt engineering standards and QA, ensuring consistent outputs for lawyers.
