Job summary

Thermoteknix Systems Ltd. in Cambridge is seeking an AI/ML Research Engineer to research, develop and validate AI, machine learning and image processing algorithms for our thermal imaging cores and wider imaging product range.

You will balance model performance with real-time constraints, collaborating with software, FPGA, electronics and optical engineers to move ideas from concept to validated product implementations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• A degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Practical experience developing, training and evaluating ML/DL models for image/video applications.
• Strong Python skills and practical experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience developing conventional image processing algorithms with imaging fundamentals, noise and calibration.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills including statistics, linear algebra and optimization.
• Experience preparing datasets, designing experiments and assessing generalisation.

Responsibilities

• AI and Machine Learning: develop and train ML/DL models for imaging applications including detection and classification.
• Image Processing and Imaging Science: develop algorithms for noise reduction, contrast, dynamic range and calibration.
• Data and Validation Plan: design reproducible experiments and ensure proper datasets and provenance.
• Embedded Implementation and Product Support: prototype in Python/MATLAB and support integration into real-time software.
