Future is seeking an AI & Automation Engineer to design and implement smart solutions that enhance manual business processes. You will work with modern tools such as Temporal.io, n8n.io, Make.com, and various programming languages including Python, Go, Typescript, PHP, and Java to create custom automations. Your role involves collaborating with teams across Sales, Product, Editorial, IT, and Engineering to identify inefficiencies, understand requirements, and develop AI-driven solutions—ranging from prompt-engineered LLM tools to automated workflows—for data analysis, quality assurance, and planning.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering - Systems and AI, you will lead projects from conception to deployment, ensuring systems are scalable and thoroughly tested using CI/CD pipelines. As a subject matter expert, you’ll promote responsible AI use, mentor team members, and help establish best practices and governance frameworks. Staying current with advancements in AI, LLMs, and automation technologies, you’ll contribute to innovation while documenting solutions and participating in team initiatives like code reviews and hack days.

This role is vital in embedding responsible, high-impact AI and automation solutions across Future. You will work across departments (Product, Engineering, Sales, Editorial) to identify opportunities and implement solutions that streamline workflows, boost productivity, improve content quality, and support profitable growth—while upholding Future's values and 'trusted, specialist content' ethos.

Experience that will give you an edge

  • Experience in a relevant technical role—Automation, Software Engineering, AI/ML Engineering
  • Experience designing and implementing process automation solutions using workflow tools and custom scripting/programming
  • Hands-on experience applying AI/ML concepts (LLMs and embeddings) to solve practical business problems, including familiarity with commercial AI APIs and open-source models
  • Understanding and practical application of modern software engineering best practices: version control (Git), CI/CD principles, automated testing, writing clean, maintainable code
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent skills to articulate complex technical ideas effectively to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical) and collaborate across departments
  • User Focus & Coaching: A customer-centric mindset, empathy for end-user needs, and a willingness to share knowledge and mentor others

What’s in it for you

The expected salary range is £50,000 - £60,000.

This is a remote-based role.

Plus, enjoy great perks such as:

  • Uncapped leave, trusting you to manage your workload and time
  • Profit sharing bonuses when targets are met
