Job summary

University of Southampton is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. You will embed physics-informed ML within NeuralShipper for innovative marine vessel design, working with Compute Maritime Ltd and the university on end-to-end concept generation and optimisation.

Qualifications

• MSc/MEng or PhD in ML, AI, CFD, Hydrodynamics, Optimisation or related field (desirable).
• Experience applying ML/DL to engineering or physical systems.

Responsibilities

• Translate and embed research into a commercially viable solution by managing work packages.
• Develop and validate fast, physics-informed models for ship resistance, propulsion and energy efficiency using CFD and benchmark data.
• Design and implement multidisciplinary optimisation methods, integrating them into NeuralShipper as robust, scalable tools for automated vessel design improvement.
• Extend NeuralShipper capabilities to wind-assisted propulsion and rigid sail systems with industry validation.
