The NHS is recruiting an AHP Education and Workforce Lead to spearhead the development and implementation of workforce strategies for the Allied Health Professions. The successful candidate will be vital in supporting recruitment and development initiatives to enhance patient care delivery and drive the AHP workforce agenda.
Job summary
We are delighted to now be able to recruit into this role on a permanent basis. This post has been designed to support the LGT AHP strategic workforce plan continuing the work started from initial AHP Workforce supply programme. The successful candidate will provide dedicated insight in to the challenges faced by the AHP professions and contribute to the current and future AHP workforce supply strategy planning.
We are looking for an experienced individual who can work independently and will provide the additional capacity to work across all the AHP professions employed in the Trust. Networking across the sector and keeping abreast of national developments will ensure LGT AHPs maximise their potential. You will work alongside the Divisional Director of Professions and Governance and the Trust workforce development team .

Main duties of the jobThe Allied Health Professions (AHP) Education and Workforce Lead will be responsible for supporting the Divisional Director of Professions & Governance (DDPG) in leading the strategic development and implementation of the Trust's AHP workforce agenda. Working across the system, the post holder will work closely with existing internal structures including clinical groups, Training and Development department, AHP and AHP networks, and external organisations and the South East London AHP Faculty and in partnership with our education/academic partner HEI's.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring that the AHP workforce is recruited and developed to contribute to and lead in the provision of outstanding, evidence based patient care and professional development. The post holder will support the development of solutions for expanding AHP clinical placement capacity and lead the implementation of these ideas. The post holder will also have a portfolio of work programmes to lead and develop further programmes of work that support the development of the AHP workforce across the Trust, including apprenticeships and new role development, such as preceptorship programmes.

4. Duties and Responsibilities
4.1 Education
To develop and lead the delivery of an ambitious but achievable AHP clinical placement expansion implementation plan across the Trust and use a range of methods and resources to evaluate outcomes of the clinical placement expansion work programme.
To lead and support the fair share arrangements for student placement across the allied health professions at GSTT.
Represent the DDPG in relevant workforce forums within and outside the sector.
Develop and oversee a community of practice with AHP Education Leads/Practice Placement co-ordinators across the Trust
Further strengthen education and training opportunities with Health Education England (HEE) relevant to the needs of AHPs.
Identify need for skills development in relation to clinical placement expansion amongst the AHP workforce presenting options and solutions.
Coordinate clinical placement data collation and analysis as required.
Initiate, organise, facilitate and participate in events such as workshops
Proactively develop proposals and recommendations for new education and development programmes to help improve AHP practice across the Trust and to support world class AHP training and development.
4.2 Workforce
Influence the development of the clinical workforce through role redesign, training, competency development, lifelong learning and performance review, ensuring access to information and support during practice development
To collaborate effectively with senior AHP clinicians and heads of departments across the Trust, taking into account current and revised national standards, working across professional boundaries
Challenge traditional thinking to develop and implement leading edge practice and promote innovation.
Ensure recruitment practices are efficient and effective in attracting and recruiting new staff to the organisation. Work towards the goal of having a waiting list for staff to join the Trust.
Support the introduction of new roles, inclusive of but not limited to AHP Apprenticeships; Support roles and Advanced Clinical Practitioners
In collaboration with the Associate Director of Organisational Development, Equality & Inclusion and DDPG ensure that workforce development funding is shared and utilised effectively and efficiently for AHPs.
Contribute to the AHP strategy to ensure that LGT can be a leader of professional practice.
To support the DDPG in ensuring we have an effective recruitment and retention strategy for AHPs in the Trust with measureable outcomes.
To lead the implementation of programmes of work which support the development of the AHP workforce.
To work with AHP leads to further develop initiatives that support the recruitment and retention of AHPs. This to include the implementation of the recommendations from the HEE RePAIR (Reducing Pre-Registration Attrition and Improving Retention) project.
Contribute to strategic planning and policy development taking into account shifting trends within AHP education. Work with the Equality and Diversity Leads and key stakeholders in reviewing the Trusts equality and diversity agenda policies, frameworksand strategies as they relate to AHP workforce and education policies.
4.3 Communications and Relationships
Develop strong networks within and across the South East London ICS to ensure that best practice is applied and that opportunities for development and innovation are maximised.
Develop and ensure communication and engagement strategies are in place for AHP staff across the Trust.
Act as a central point of contact on all significant matters relating to AHP workforce development programmes.
Facilitate and lead collaborative working with relevant Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Work with HEE and HEE AHP clinical fellows to ensure workforce planning and education planning takes account required transformation.
4.4 Professional and General Responsibilities
Prepare papers / presentations and follow up for meetings and any other groups as appropriate with support to the Chair(s) as appropriate.
Input to business cases and other required documentation.
