The Vacancy

ADAS, part of the RSK Group is seeking to appoint an Agriculture & Farm Infrastructure & Engineering Consultant on a full time, permanent basis, with hybrid home and office working available. We are flexible on your base location.

As an Agriculture, Farm Infrastructure & Engineering consultant, you will work with farmers to optimise their operational and environmental performance, advising on all aspects of farming. In particular this could include farm building design, drainage / management of yard runoff, water resources, silage and slurry storage facilities, and machinery. You will provide advice and one to one consultancy to farmers and the wider industry throughout the UK, finding cost-effective, practical solutions to on-farm environmental problems.

Suitable candidates will be required to deliver strategic consultancy to farmer and grower clients, advice programmes on behalf of government agencies and projects for utility companies, industry organisations, and research institutes. The role requires practical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate with farmers, regulators, and government bodies.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver business-focussed, technical infrastructure and environmental consultancy. Working for individual farmers and corporate clients as well as delivering on farm advice through contracts funded by the public sector. Working in project teams with senior consultants and national specialists, while developing and delivering a portfolio of private client work.
  • Assess and design farm infrastructure including silage clamps, slurry and organic manure storage, livestock buildings & grain stores, sprayer filling areas & pesticide stores, rainwater harvesting systems, and Rural Sustainable Drainage Systems (SDS) such as swales, sediment traps and constructed wetlands.
  • Advise farmers and other clients on resource protection, regulatory compliance (e.g. SSAFO regs, NVZ regulations, Farming Rules for Water), and the reduction of diffuse water and air pollution.
  • Analyse problems and provide independent, technically correct, legally compliant cost-effective solutions to clients.
  • Apply skills and expertise in a range of consultancy services including technical infrastructure, resource protection, nutrient, soil & water management underpinned by an understanding of relevant legislation, arable and livestock systems.
  • Contribute to business development, promoting ADAS and developing contacts with new and existing clients through meetings and events.

Qualifications and experience

  • Relevant, practical post graduate experience in agriculture.
  • Agricultural engineering degree preferred, or an Agriculture related degree.
  • Understanding of the application of GIS mapping, and CAD software in delivery of consultancy projects would be an advantage.
  • Competent user of Microsoft software including Windows, Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Understand and communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner in English.
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport.

  • Salary up to £35,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience.
