Job Description:

The Vacancy

ADAS, part of the RSK Group, is seeking to appoint an Agriculture & Farm Infrastructure & Engineering Consultant on a full-time, permanent basis, with hybrid home and office working available. We are flexible on your base location.

As an Agriculture, Farm Infrastructure & Engineering consultant, you will work with farmers to optimise their operational and environmental performance, advising on all aspects of farming. This could include farm building design, drainage/management of yard runoff, water resources, silage and slurry storage facilities, and machinery. You will provide advice and one-to-one consultancy to farmers and the wider industry throughout the UK, finding cost-effective, practical solutions to on-farm environmental problems.

Suitable candidates will be required to deliver strategic consultancy to farmer and grower clients, advice programmes on behalf of government agencies, and projects for utility companies, industry organisations, and research institutes. The role requires practical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with farmers, regulators, and government bodies.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver business-focused, technical infrastructure and environmental consultancy, working for individual farmers and corporate clients, and delivering on-farm advice through public sector-funded contracts. Collaborate with senior consultants and national specialists while developing a portfolio of private client work.
  • Assess and design farm infrastructure including silage clamps, slurry and organic manure storage, livestock buildings & grain stores, sprayer filling areas & pesticide stores, rainwater harvesting systems, and Rural Sustainable Drainage Systems (SDS) such as swales, sediment traps, and constructed wetlands.
  • Advise farmers and clients on resource protection, regulatory compliance (e.g., SSAFO regs, NVZ regulations, Farming Rules for Water), and reduction of diffuse water and air pollution.
  • Analyse problems and provide independent, legally compliant, cost-effective solutions to clients.
  • Apply skills in consultancy services including technical infrastructure, resource protection, nutrient, soil & water management, underpinned by relevant legislation and understanding of arable and livestock systems.
  • Contribute to business development by promoting ADAS and developing contacts through meetings and events.

Qualifications and experience

  • Relevant practical postgraduate experience in agriculture.
  • Agricultural engineering degree preferred, or an agriculture-related degree.
  • Knowledge of GIS mapping and CAD software in consultancy projects would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Windows, Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Full UK driving license and own transport.

Salary and benefits

  • Salary up to £35,000 per annum, negotiable based on experience.
  • On-the-job training and mentoring, with industry-relevant qualifications.
  • Contributory Pension Scheme and Life Assurance.
  • Encouragement of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Flexible benefits, including additional holidays and private healthcare.
