Job description

About Us

Grwp Llandrillo Menai was established in 2012 through mergers between Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai, and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor. It employs 2,000 staff and offers courses to around 21,000 students, including over 1,500 higher education students, across Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, and Gwynedd.

The group aims to support North Wales' economy by equipping local people with the skills and qualifications needed for regional competitiveness and success. Our wide range of courses, high-quality learning experiences, excellent facilities, and talented staff all contribute to achieving these goals.

Our mission, 'Improving People's Futures,' reflects our commitment as a further education provider. While delivering successful qualifications is essential, we also significantly impact social cohesion and economic development. We strive to be at the heart of our communities and serve as the skills engine driving North Wales' success.

Job Purpose

The Agriculture department is based at Coleg Glynllifon. Students undertake full-time level 2 and 3 courses, with opportunities for apprenticeships with suitable employers. We also deliver courses for secondary school students aged 14-16. Students gain practical experience by working for employers offering agricultural services or working on farms with livestock and machinery tasks.

The Practical Skills Supervisor will develop students' understanding and skills through planned practical activities aligned with the course scheme of work. These activities include:

  • Working with livestock: dosing, weighing, lamb sorting, calving
  • Dairy, sheep, pigs, beef
  • Estate maintenance: fencing, walling, installing gates
  • Driving farm machinery (tractors, telehandlers, ATVs)

The supervisor will contribute to these activities based on their expertise. Formal assessments will occur during terms 2 and 3.

Hours per week: 7.5 hours (245 hours per year). An additional 10% will be applied to reflect preparation and marking time.

Work Pattern: To be agreed based on availability, during college terms (34 weeks).

Annual Leave: Pro-rata paid holiday entitlement, including 8 bank/public holidays observed in Wales and up to 5 'efficiency days' (subject to change). The entitlement is based on a full-time equivalent of 46 days, included in the hourly rate.

Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme
