Job description

Agricultural Development Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Agricultural Development Underwriter to join the Underwriting team at Victor. This role will be based in our Leeds office however hybrid working due to the successful candidate being expected to spend time across various locations whilst providing on site underwriting to our brokers.

The Agricultural Development Underwriter will carry out a wide range of underwriting activities and broker development relating to our Farm Combined and Farm Motor product. The role will be involved in executing the company strategy and materially contributing to the achievement of our financial plans. In addition, you will play a crucial role for providing a superior customer service, front line broker development and delivering the required product profitability. The Development Underwriter will be responsible for key agricultural broker accounts providing on site underwriting to those specific brokers within their office whilst ensuring an exceptional level of service.

There will be a requirement to travel to the offices of the Brokers assigned to you on a regular basis.

We will rely on you to:
  • Contribute to and implement the underwriting strategy for all products, working within our established risk appetite
  • Directly contribute towards financial KPI's, including balancing the achievement of revenue without any detriment to underwriting profitability
  • Deliver Victor service levels on all authorised products
  • Ensure that TCF is a part of the organisation's culture and behaviours
  • Have significant awareness of and ensuring adherence of all regulatory requirements, guidelines and working practices - both internally and externally
  • Spot distribution trends and report back on broker behaviours.
  • Build strong broker accounts through on-site underwriting expertise and placement, realising trading initiatives
  • Manage quality first and underwriting peer review requirements to identify areas for underwriting and product improvement
  • Act within underwriting authority
  • Have an in depth knowledge of relevant class/ product specialisms
  • Strong awareness with market trends and developments for authorised industry segments
  • Build strong relationships with capacity partners
  • Be responsible for own personal technical and skill set progression
  • Work closely with the sales team in implementing the distribution strategy
  • Regularly evaluate KPI's with Business Development team and ensure delivery of broker commitments
  • Proactively engage with the marketing of authorised products, including supporting the planning and innovation of new ideas
  • Complete project work as per briefs and provide appropriate feedback as to projects goals and aim


What you need to have:
  • Good understanding of the commercial insurance market
  • Demonstrable Agricultural Underwriting experience
  • Have held underwriting authority for chosen class of business previously
  • Knowledge of the in-scope product and trade range
  • Experience of working in teams and successful record of delivering results
