Job summary

Viridien in Crawley, United Kingdom, is hiring a hands-on Machine Learning Engineer to build agentic AI and reinforcement learning solutions for scientific applications. You will work within our AI Lab to create single-agent and multi-agent systems, integrating LLMs, tools and domain-specific workflows.

The role emphasizes practical implementation, experimentation and turning prototypes into robust software components, with a hybrid work setup and access to advanced AI infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, engineering or related discipline.
• Experience building machine-learning, generative-AI or LLM applications.
• Experience with PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with agentic AI concepts like tool calling, planning and memory.
• Understanding of reinforcement learning or sequential decision-making.
• Experience evaluating models or implementing ideas from ML research.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop single-agent and multi-agent systems.
• Implement and evaluate capabilities: reasoning, planning, task decomposition, memory, tool use and collaboration.
• Integrate LLMs, vision-language models, retrieval systems and domain tools.
• Experiment with fine-tuning and adapting foundation models using supervised learning and RL where appropriate.
• Develop training environments, reward functions, graders and feedback mechanisms.
• Design evaluations, guardrails and monitoring for agent reliability.
• Turn prototypes into APIs, services and reusable software components.
