Job summary

American Express seeks an AI Engineer – Agentic AI to contribute to production-ready agentic AI systems handling real financial data and customers. You will work with experienced engineers, product managers, and designers to design, build, and ship AI-powered features in a regulated, customer-facing environment.

This role offers mentorship and growth in LLMs, agentic systems, and production AI engineering, with production code, system design discussions, and post-launch operation alongside

Qualifications

• Demonstrated professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building AI-powered features or ML systems.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one backend language (Python, Go, or TypeScript).
• Familiarity with APIs and cloud concepts; modern development practices.
• Interest in agentic AI, autonomy, and AI-assisted development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement LLM-powered agentic product features.
• Build and extend agentic AI workflows that reason over context and call tools.
• Help implement retrieval-augmented generation pipelines over financial data.
• Contribute to shared AI infrastructure such as LLM services and orchestration components.
• Operate AI systems in production with monitoring and reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with product and design to translate customer needs into technical solutions.
