Job summary

AustralianSuper seeks an AI & Automation Engineer in London to design, build and operate agentic AI and intelligent automation capabilities. The role combines applied AI, automation engineering and solution architecture to create goal-driven systems that can reason, plan, adapt and execute tasks with appropriate autonomy.

You will collaborate with Technology, Data and Digital teams to embed reliable AI within enterprise platforms and processes, ensuring governance and responsible deployment

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in hands-on technical engineering roles within complex enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated experience designing, delivering and supporting production-grade AI-enabled automation solutions.
• Practical experience with agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows and orchestration patterns.
• Understanding of Generative AI, large language models and agent-based system design.
• Experience owning complex technical problems through design, implementation, deployment and support.
• Able to work autonomously with shifting priorities in evolving environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain agentic AI and automation systems for intelligent decision-making and autonomous task execution.
• Translate business challenges into agent-based architectures, selecting models, tools, and automation patterns.
• Develop AI-enabled workflows with orchestration, adaptive behaviour and safe escalation paths.
• Design agent orchestration using frameworks like Semantic Kernel, LangChain or equivalents.
• Build and optimise Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines grounded in trusted knowledge sources.
• Engineer prompts, tool-use patterns, planning strategies and reasoning approaches for reliable outcomes.
• Integrate AI agents with core applications, APIs and data services across the enterprise.
• Productionise solutions with DevOps/MLOps practices focusing on reliability and scalability.
• Monitor performance, drift, hallucination risk and service degradation.
• Implement controls, guardrails and human-in-the-loop mechanisms across autonomous solutions.
• Contribute to reusable AI standards and engineering best practices.
• Communicate designs, outcomes and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science / Engineering / Data Science or related
