Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a capable Test Engineer to join our aerospace testing team at Filton. You will build, commission, and operate test rigs to evaluate aerospace components and systems, ensuring safety, accuracy, and compliance with programme requirements.

You will collaborate with engineers and project teams to deliver reliable test results and support continuous improvement. Applicants should have mid-level experience with hydraulic, electrical or mechanical systems, strong troubleshooting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• Experience with hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical test setups in aerospace.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Experience using test equipment, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and fault-finding tools.
• Strong health, safety, and quality procedures awareness in an engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Execute hydraulic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests on aerospace components and systems while accurately recording and reporting test results.
• Assemble, configure, and commission hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation systems to support testing activities and ensure equipment readiness.
• Conduct fault-finding and troubleshooting on test rigs, equipment, and integrated systems to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Perform pre-test inspections and safety validations, ensuring all testing activities comply with site and aerospace safety requirements.
• Monitor test performance, investigate anomalies, and support root cause analysis of equipment or system failures.
• Maintain accurate test documentation, reports, and technical records in accordance with quality and compliance standards.
