Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a technically proficient technician to support the assembly, testing and repair of advanced electronic and electromechanical systems. You will work across laboratory, development and production activities, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and workmanship.

Based in Bedford, you will interpret drawings, assemble components, troubleshoot faults and support testing of prototype and production hardware. Some UK travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in assembly, testing and repair of electronic and electromechanical systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and assembly documentation.
• Practical experience with soldering and wiring techniques.
• Experience using hand tools, workshop equipment and electrical test instruments.
• Understanding fault-finding techniques for electrical, electronic and electromechanical assemblies.
• Awareness of ESD controls, quality standards and safe working practices.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture and assemble electronic and electromechanical systems, including wiring harnesses, PCBAs, mechanical assemblies and associated hardware.
• Carry out inspection, testing, integration and commissioning of electronic and electromechanical assemblies in accordance with approved procedures and documentation.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair faults within electronic, electrical and electromechanical systems.
• Support the modification, rework and maintenance of prototype and production hardware to meet engineering and quality requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics, assembly instructions and test documentation to accurately build and integrate systems.
• Assist in the installation, operation and testing of sensors, actuators, motors and other electromechanical devices.
• Maintain accurate build, test and inspection records in accordance with company quality processes.
• Ensure compliance with ESD, health and safety, quality and laboratory procedures.
• Support the maintenance of laboratory equipment, tooling and work areas, ensuring a safe and organised environment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities to enhance manufacturing quality, efficiency and repeatability.
• Support stock control and management of laboratory consumables and components.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and senior technicians to support development, integration and test programme.
