Job summary

University of Bristol is seeking two postdoctoral researchers to work on manufacturing technologies for next-generation aerospace composites. You will characterise fibre-reinforced materials through lay-up, forming, infusion and curing, exploring metrology and how architecture and processing influence quality.

Collaboration with industry partners and multiple universities is central. The roles require full-time commitment; provisional project dates and upcoming interviews are provided.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience designing novel prototypes to investigate deformation and defect mechanisms.
  • Experience developing material characterisation techniques to describe constituents and architecture of fibre-reinforced preforms during manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in describing defects from measurement system data.
  • Familiarity with software for the control of defects or analysis of defects.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design of novel experimental material characterisation methodologies.
  • Undertaking laboratory test for generation of data-rich experimental results.
  • Analysis and post-processing of experimental results for use in database development.
  • Dissemination of results via conferences and industrial partner interaction.
  • Technology transfer and support to industrial users of methods developed.
