Job summary

McLaren Racing is seeking an Aerodynamics Design Engineer to design race car aero surfaces, wind tunnel model parts and assemblies within the Aero Design team in London.

You will collaborate with CFD, model makers, production, wind tunnel technicians, R&D and vehicle engineering to ensure development projects are executed to schedule. Occasional travel is required; factory-based role with standard working hours and potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Aeronautical engineering or related field.
  • 3D CAD knowledge.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings.
  • Formula Student and industrial experience advantageous.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.

Aerodynamics Design Engineer - McLaren Racing At McLaren, our mission is to set the standard for high performance in sport. Purpose of the Role As a member of the Aero Design team, you will design race car aerodynamic surfaces, wind tunnel model parts, and assemblies. Taking on increased responsibility for project leadership and technical expertise, your role involves contributing to the design process and ensuring the successful execution of development projects.

Responsibilities
  • Integral member of the Aero Design team, contributing to the design of aero surfaces and wind tunnel model components.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider Aero team-including aerodynamicists, CFD, model makers, production team, wind tunnel technicians, R&D team, and vehicle engineering team.
  • Factory based but may involve occasional travel.
  • Predominantly carried out during standard working hours but may include additional hours and weekends.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Experience working with different CAD software and familiarity with CAD methodologies.
  • Good awareness of FIA regulations and how they impact vehicle design.
  • Effective teamwork on projects, informing team on project timelines.
  • Contribution to the design of race car aerodynamic surfaces, wind tunnel model parts, and assemblies, working cross-functionally to meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
