Advisory Senior Associate

Department: Advisory

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Oxford, UK

Reporting To: Brian Potskowski

Description

Based in Oxford, you will be a senior member of the GB & Ireland advisory team at Aurora, providing cutting-edge advice for clients across the energy transition. You will manage junior colleagues in developing insights to help clients make better strategic and investment choices. You will support all aspects of client engagement: helping identify issues, forming hypotheses, conducting analysis, synthesising conclusions into recommendations, and presenting to key decision-makers in the industry. You will leverage Aurora's industry-leading modelling capabilities to develop data-based strategic insights into the energy transition for both public and private sector clients.

Successful candidates will work in a dynamic, stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. They will apply their interpersonal skills to carefully develop project teams and engage clients through the project lifecycle. They will possess an entrepreneurial, client-focused mindset for seizing business opportunities and be given the responsibility to chart the path of their teams through projects which can substantially influence the thinking of organisations across the energy sector. Over time, they will be able to grow into industry experts due to the depth of experience gained within the GB & Ireland advisory team.

The position requires a minimum of five years' experience with a top-tier strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, project developer, or knowledge-focused firm or institution. The successful candidate will combine sharp quantitative skills with a strong track record of leadership and dependable performance in team-oriented environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the delivery of advisory projects for our clients, across a diverse range of energy transition technologies, business models and strategies, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard
  • Line management of junior analysts in the team to help them develop and coaching/managing analysts within a project
  • Supporting business development work, for example by joining scoping calls and crafting proposals
  • Thought leadership and subject matter ownership within the Advisory team of flexible energy markets

What we are looking for

Required attributes:

  • At least 5-6 years of experience at a major consultancy, energy company, project developer, or other knowledge-focused firm or institution

  • Demonstrated success in taking responsibility for project and process management in team-oriented environments
  • Proven ability to interpret and derive insight from complex quantitative data and information
  • Ability to communicate clearly and co-operate effectively with both technically and non-technically minded people
  • Self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set, and desire to grow the business

Desirable attributes:

  • Previous experience working on energy-related projects - particularly in a GB or Ireland context
  • Previous experience working in BESS project development, optimisation, or trading
  • Leadership, management or mentoring experience demonstrated by previous roles of professional responsibility or extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrated success in working together with clients
  • Competence in advanced data analytics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, Advanced Excel)
  • Strong academic record, such as a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant discipline
