Job description

The Role

A exciting opportunity is available for a Band 7 CAMHS Dietitian to join the CAMHS AHP service. The post would offer a highly specialist clinical opportunity within a well-established dietetics team, providing dietetic input across all locality CAMHS teams and functional CAMHS teams.

The primary role would be to offer evidence based treatment through dietetic risk assessment, education and care planning with the young person and their family to support recovery. You will work closely with colleagues in Tier 3 CAMHS, the national inpatient unit and CYP community services.

• To practice at an autonomous level, and provide highly specialist Dietetic input within NHS Lanarkshire’s Nutrition and Dietetic team, undertaking highly specialist service developments and influencing local and National policy.

• To act as a Dietetic expert providing a highly specialised service and advice to dietitians and other health professionals locally and nationally.
• To provide leadership and support to senior and junior Dietetic staff within the overall service.
• Utilise highly specialist and advanced skills to manage a caseload of patients with highly complex needs, using evidence based /patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in both hospital and/or community settings.
• To work under the support, guidance and direction of the Dietetic professional lead undertaking specialist service developments, leadership tasks and management duties as required.
• Be responsible for practice education of Dietetic students on placement within the service area.
• Undertake research within speciality and design audit tools to assist this process.
• This post offers the postholder an opportunity to join in the delivery and further development of an effective Dietetic specialist service within NHS Lanarkshire.
• In particular, the post holder will be involved directly in the review of current structured education programmes and the development of new programmes as required.

What we’ll need you to bring

• Registered Dietitian with valid HCPC Registration
• Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
• Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality
• Advanced Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality.
• Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement
• Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.
• Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
• The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate and influence others and work using own initiative
• Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and effective time management skills
• Working knowledge of basic information technology

It would be great if you also have

• Knowledge of and training in leadership theories and skills
• e.g. active contribution at national level, evidence of participation in research and audit projects
• Experience of working in multi-disciplinary team
• Evidence of providing clinical supervision, guidance and training to Dietetic colleagues, support workers or students
• Previous experience in Specialist Dietetic Role/CAMHS
• Evidence of applying evidence based dietetic practice to improve patient care
• Knowledge of a number of specialist areas
• Knowledge of clinical governance and its application in clinical practice e.g. clinical audit, risk management etc
• Up to date knowledge of professional issues, including national clinical standards and guidelines
• Evidence of person centre approach to dietetic practice
• Evidence of ability to work within a team multidisciplinary and uni-disciplinary
• Evidence of good verbal and written communication skills
• Flexible and versatile with ability to indentify care priorities.
• Ability to work under time pressure.

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services within CAMHS NHS Lanarkshire
