Job description

Advanced Social Worker Child Protection and Child in Need Team

We are committed to providing outstanding support and care to children, families, carers, and practitioners across Salford. We are investing in social workers at all levels, from newly qualified to team managers, including those considering relocation to the area.

We have a vacancy for an Advanced Social Worker to join our Child Protection and Child in Need service for a period of 12 months.

Our Child Protection and Child in Need service comprises 6 teams, each led by a Practice Manager, with two Advanced Social Workers and seven Social Workers. The teams work with cared-for children, manage care proceedings, and support children at CIN and CP thresholds to achieve better outcomes in partnership with families.

Our social workers support families to make progress, reducing risks for children and young people. The teams are supported by dedicated family practitioners, administrative support, and close collaboration with our integrated family time service.

As an Advanced Social Worker, you may develop specialisms or become a practice champion in a particular area. There is also an opportunity to become a practice educator if desired.

In Salford, we value you as a person and as a practitioner, whether you are experienced or aspiring to be.

Your role will include:

  1. Managing a caseload of complex cases in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
  2. Conducting various assessments based on family needs.
  3. Building effective relationships with children, young people, and families to facilitate participation in assessment, planning, review, and decision-making.
  4. Managing safeguarding risks, working within a multi-agency environment, and advocating for necessary services.
  5. Providing supervision to staff, trainees, and contributing to workforce development.
  6. Supporting the Practice Manager with team development and performance.
  7. Chairing Strategy Meetings and providing case direction as needed.
  8. Leading by example and delivering best practice.

What we offer:

  • Up to 34 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Competitive salary following pay and grading review.
  • Hybrid working for flexibility.
  • Refurbished office space with free parking at Unity House, Swinton.
  • Resources and support for your work with children and families.
  • Training and mentoring schemes.
  • Wellbeing support.
  • Regular, reflective supervision from a consistent leadership team.
