Advanced Social Worker – Assessment & Intervention Exeter & East Devon | Up to £46 per hour (DOE) £150 weekly commuter/accommodation allowance (for eligible candidates) Full-time | Office-based during duty week

Devon County Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Advanced Social Worker to join the Assessment & Intervention (A&I) Team based in Exeter and East Devon. This is a high-impact role where you’ll work directly with families, support less experienced staff, and help shape the quality of practice in a forward-thinking local authority.

About the Role: As an Advanced Social Worker, you will:

Work closely with your Team Manager to provide day-to-day leadership and professional support to your team.

Manage a reduced caseload to allow time for complex direct work, mentoring, and reflective supervision.

Complete in-depth assessments for children and families with complex needs, ensuring timely interventions and robust safeguarding responses.

Support child-focused practice through statutory visits, emergency responses, and Section 47 investigations.

Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to newly qualified and less experienced social workers and students.

Promote evidence-based practice and a learning culture through reflective sessions, practice modelling, and quality assurance.

Working Pattern: Duty weeks: 5 days a week in the office (to support face-to-face visits and emergency responses)

Non-duty weeks: 3 days in the office or as required (e.g. for training or team supervision)

What We're Looking For: Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England (SWE)

Substantial post-qualifying experience, working at an experienced or advanced level

Proven ability to mentor, supervise and support colleagues in their development

Strong understanding of complex safeguarding work, assessments, and multi-agency practice

Evidence of continuous professional development and a commitment to best practice
